Stop being a glass, become a lake

A disciple will constantly nag and complain about things around to his spiritual master. Fade up his complaining nature the Master decided to teach him the lesson.

The master ordered, “Put a handful of salt in a glass of water and drink.”

The disciple followed the instructions and started spitting because of the bitterness of the water.

The master asked, “How does it taste?”
Disciple replied, “It’s so bitter.” He spit again.

The Master asked the disciple to follow him to the lake and asked him to put again a handful of salt in the lake. After the disciple swirled the salt in the lake the Master ordered, “Again take a glass of water and drink it.”

The disciple followed the instructions. The master asked, “How does it taste this time?”

The young man replied, “Fresh.”
Master, “Did you experience the bitterness of salt?”

Disciple replied, “No.”

At this master said, “The pain of life is also like a pure salt; no more, no less.

The extent of pain remains exactly the same. However, the amount of bitterness in the taste depends on the container we put the pain in. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things. Stop being a glass, become a lake.”

Disciple was at the feet of master seeking his blessings…
