That’s a good question

Consider what happens when you ask someone a question and they respond, “That’s a good question.” Or they might respond, “That’s a curious question.”

Probably when reaction comes as, “That’s a good question” means the respondant has the answer ready .They may also genuinely think you’ve asked a good question — a question that has caused them to have a fresh thought.

When the response comes as, “That’s a curious question,” means his feeling is challenged. They either don’t have an answer at hand, or they feel the question itself is somehow a challenge to their authority.

Powerful people controlled information as well as armies. Rulers controlled the story.

3 questions to ask every day according to Deepak Chopra

“Take five minutes every day and just sit in silence. In that time, put these questions to your attention and heart:

Who am I?

What do I want for my life?

What do I want from my life today?

Then let go, and let your stream of consciousness, your quieter inner voice, supply the answers.

Then, after five minutes, write them down.

Do this every day and you’ll be surprised at how situations, circumstances, events, and people will orchestrate themselves around the answers.

This is the beginning of synchrodestiny.

Protect yourself from  the wicked mind

Whenever I read Ram Charit Manas, I laugh reading the below couplet.

उदासीन अरि मीत हित सुनति जरहिं खल नीति ।
जानी पानी जग जोरि बिनती करइ सप्रीती ।। 4

Tulsidas says, “Offer salutation with joined palms to the wicked ones who has inherent nature to carry out divisive agenda and always fire their inner self with jealousy, ill-will, and cunningness whenever they hear the welfare, wellness, and wellbeing of anyone whether they are their friend of foe. “

So, there are some of those who are born with it and you cannot change their nature.

The only thing you can do is fold your hand and keep them at your side so that the effects of their ill-will is lesser on you and you remain protected.

Axe the ignorance

“Instead of saying “I don’t have time” try saying “it’s not a priority,” and see how that feels. Often, that’s a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just don’t want to. But other things are harder.

Try it: “I’m not going to edit my resume, because it’s not a priority.” “I don’t want to go to the doctor because my health is not a priority.”

If these phrases don’t sit well, that’s the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don’t like how we’re spending an hour, we can choose differently.”

What if you depend on God like a baby monkey depends on her mother?

I found this picture of a baby monkey fully dependent on her mother to carry her everywhere in my phone gallery.

It reminded me of my own childhood when I was dependent on my mother.

A question appeared in my mind: ‘What if we possess the highest level of dependability in God like a baby monkey?”

What would happen if we take refuge in God without being worried whether God appears in front of me or not, whether he bestows his blessings in the hours of crisis or not, whether I am his favorite child or not.

My experience says that when I depend on God, it frees me from worries, it frees me from worldly responsibilities, it brightens the darkness surrounding me, and it sets me free from bondage.

And then the only thing I have to do — to withdraw myself to him, behold him by meditating upon him, reciting his name all the time, and serve God in all means and acts.

By this singleton thinking, I remain fully surrendered into his feet and happy with whatever he decides for me with his sweet will.

Experience it to become an experiencer.

Raise your voice, not just your hand

Our education system is practiced in a way that it formalises the way we think, understand and interpret the things.

It starts with raising our hands in agreement with our class teacher and then simply memorising the answers without questioning the premise of the content or context. It makes us the follower of a set of rules, deeply understood and dutifully practiced.

The rules of game must change when you leave the classroom and enter the room of life. But, you’re so much cynically inside the mindset of raising your hands that you continue to do it even when it is necessary to raise your voice.

We see it everyday on social media, instead of raising our own voice, we join the tribe and limit ourselves by just raising our hand – Like, Love, Share. We mostly don’t comment citing that we will hurt the emotions of our friend.

Raising a hand is a traditional way of respecting authority, every speaker and every authority use it to gain the social validation for their echoed concept. It’s a way of maintaining order, allowing others to get a turn.

It’s been deeply felt during the recent political gatherings, few ardent supporters chant “Modi Modi” and whole lot of us, make this as the leadership beyond obvious gesture when our Prime Minister stands up and raises hand to the crowd “Please do not do this.”.  Floundering on the  acknowledgement has its place, but where would be be if everyone rushes for this shiftable floundering?

I don’t say ignore the authority. Rather,  consider a different way of interacting with everyone you work, interact and engage with. Raise your hand if it’s important to maintain order and show your support. But, start to raise your voice if it will move the matter forward for the overall welfare of community and nation. Ask if you have a question. State your opinion. Share your true feelings.

For you to raise your voice, step out of your comfort zone, develop your own voice, set your rules, contribute to conversations in a way that it’s purposeful, engaging and provocative. Exercise your leadership. Raise your voice. Step outside your comfort zone.

A true prayer is never directed for the welfare of one but for all

In the battlefield of Mahabharata, Arjuna asks Sri Krishna to take his chariot in the middle of the war-field.

Arjuna fell into the despondency which is the premise on which Krishna mentors Arjuna to prepare for his duty which is known to us as “Bhagavad Gita.”

Frustrated with the wait for war to begin, Duryodhana quizzes Bhishma Pitamaha, “What are they doing in the middle of the war-field?”

Bhishma Replies, “Whatever they may be doing, wait for sometime for destruction to begin.”

Duryodhana says with arrogance, “They must be discussing the way to run away from the war-field feeling afraid of loosing the war.”

Bhishma replies, “Why you’re always eager to show of your arrogance?” And continues, “I never prayed for anything for myself in my whole life. Today, wholeheartedly, I wish to pray for a favour for myself; I wish the wind blows in such a way that I’d hear the divine words pouring out from Krishna’s lips may fall on my ears.”

Hinduism does not advocate for praying for the self but, for the holistic well-being of the entire universe.

May all be filled with happiness, may all be free from all form of sickness, may all have the eye to see the goodness, and may none suffer from any form of misery.

You are also correct

Two monks went into a heated argument regarding what they heard during the discourse today.

Each of them insisted that he only heard and understood it correctly. To settle the dispute, they went to see the master.

After hearing the first monk, the master said, “You are correct!”

The monk was overjoyed. Casting a winner’s glance at his friend, he left the room.

The second monk was upset and started telling his understanding with grin.

After he finished, the master looked at him and said, “You are correct, too.” The second monk’s mood also brightened up and he went away.

A third monk who was also in the room was greatly puzzled. He said to the master, “I am confused, master!

Their positions regarding the issue are completely opposite. They can’t be both right! How could you say that they are both correct?”

The master smiled and said to third monk, “You are also correct!”

Gratitude always

One night, a thief entered the hut of a sage. He was writing a letter, so he looked at the thief and said, ”For what have you come? What do you want?”

And this sage was so innocent that even the thief couldn’t tell a lie. So he said, ”Looking at you, so mirror-like, so innocent like a child, I cannot tell a lie. Should I tell the truth?”

The sage said, ”Yes.”

He said, ”I have come to steal something.”

The sage said, ”There in that corner I have got a few rupees. You can take them” – and then he  focused on to write his letter again.

The thief took the money and was trying to leave and then the sage said, ”Stop! When somebody gives you something you should thank him. The money may not be of much help, but thanking a person will go a long way and will be of help to you. So thank me!”

The thief thanked him and disappeared into the dark.

Later on the thief was caught, and it was discovered that he had been to this sage’s hut also, so the sage was called to the court.

The sage said in court, ”Yes, I know this man very well – but he has never stolen anything from me. I gave him some rupees and he thanked me for them. It is finished, there was nothing wrong. The whole thing is finished, the account is closed. I gave him some money and he thanked me for it. He is not a thief.”

Desirelessness is the best boon

A man went into worshipping God Shiva to seek his blessings to fulfil his desire. After several years of God Shiva got pleased and granted him three boons.

God Shiva said “You can fulfil your three wishes, i grant you three boons.”

The man forgot what he wanted and after lots of thinking he remembered. He asked for the first wish “His wife should die immediately.”

His wife died instantly.

Seeing his wife dead he started feeling sad so he requested God to fulfil his second wish “Please revive my wife again.” His wife got her life back.

God warned “Now you have only one boon left. So, ask your third boon.”

Man got confused and was unable to decide. He took years but could not decide. Finally he asked God, “I am not able to decide, you please help.”

God said “There can be only one wish, one desire which is worthwhile. Ask for desirelessness, otherwise nothing is worthwhile.

Whatever you ask, the next moment you will want something else, even just the opposite of the first.”

How to turn dreams into reality with wisdom, devotion and action?

Like me, have you ever wondered why some people turn their dreams into reality while many others keep saying that dreams are not meant to be true?

The difference lies largely in how you apply the wisdom, devotion and action.

This has been shown pretty well in Ramayana and helps me rewire my brain.

Kaushalya, mother of God Ram, was an embodiment of wisdom. Throughout her life, she conducted herself wisely and enlightened life.

Sumitra, the mother of Lakshman, was full of devotion. She handed over Lakshman for Ram’s service and never demanded anything for herself.

Kakayi, the mother of Bharat, was an action-oriented person. Her actions were misguided as she went into the company of Manthara, and influenced by her ill-will, she demanded the fulfilment of her two boons to send Ram to the forest for 14 years of exile.

Spending one minute focusing on this prompt: “Whatever you are doing right now, is it aligned with the right wisdom, devotion and action?

Is it what will wake you up tomorrow, will take you where you want to be next year, how others will see you, and what your life will look like?”

Just one minute of reflection will align your thinking, feeling and action the way your best self would for converting your dreams into reality.

Sounds like work! Try it.

Live yourself. Live honest. Live present.

Last week, I was hosting TiE entrepreneurs over “business builder breakfast”. Post the event, I was interacting with a guy and he said “you’ve spoken and answered with such a simplicity that it made us feel like entrepreneurship is nothing except our everyday life. Your words were so close to your heart and we stayed connected throughout.”

My life experience says – live yourself and there are ample amount of people who will connect, conduct and care for you. Live honest and see yourself at the top list when people think of trust, credibility and loyalty. Live present and enjoy the moments as gifted to you and keep engaging, interacting and solving real issues with real self.

Have a blessed day!
